14. Early watercolors - Bristol Ferry Lighthouse, Rhode Island, USA

***

A small navigable strait between Aquidneck Island and the Rhode Island mainland connects Mount Hope Bay and Narragansett Bay. Shipping to and from Fall River, Massachusetts would use this passage to access the Atlantic, but shoals reaching out from the shore made it precarious for captains. In an attempt to address this situation a steamship company established a private navigational light on Bristol Ferry Point in 1846.
